The Kitchen

It’s quite clear that we’re crazily overwhelmed. This last weekend – what could have been a lazy weekend – ended up being wall to wall busy. This is all great, but it makes hard to manage a blog, or just take a breather. I know…first-world problems.

Anyway, this is our kitchen:

This “before” photo is obviously not quite before. We realized after moving in that we forgot to take shots of the kitchen. In the rest of our preview of the house series, the photos are all mostly of empty rooms. :)

What I love about this space is that it’s extremely open. Moving around the kitchen is quite easy and there’s plenty of space for two people to maneuver without getting in the way of each other. The island in the middle of the kitchen is movable, meaning that it is not secured to the floor. We have yet to use this feature, but if the island needs to face a different way or be positioned in some way that is different than how it is currently, the option is available to us.

The sink is a great feature in our kitchen. It’s nice and deep, easy to clean and the faucet is pretty high quality compared to the apartment rentals I’ve dealt with in the past. The storage around the kitchen (including drawers on the other side of the island) is enormous. We do not have a true pantry closet, but we do have 4-5+ cupboards that can easily be dedicated to food (and already have been).

If I could change one thing in the kitchen, I’d replace the stove top. I hate glass cooking tops. HATE. It’s nearly impossible to clean, and if you do get it clean, its not without extremely amounts of effort. I also don’t like how it’s hard to judge the actual heat. This one heats up quickly and seems to hold heat well, which is great, but it’s still an adjustment.

I don’t foresee us replacing that unit anytime soon, but if I had a budget to do it, I would. Ultimately, I’m in love with the kitchen, it is great. I love the color, the natural light and light fixtures. Hope you enjoyed seeing the kitchen – many apologies for the delay! Up next, Sara will feature the eating area of the kitchen!
